I don’t know who was more surprised, Frank or Chris, the DSP who was with him when he found out that he had been volunteering for 20 years at the Kitchener Waterloo Humane Society. The pair happened to casually ask while Frank was visiting early in January this year. The Humane Society staff looked it up on the computer and astonishingly remarked “20 years, almost to the day!”

In the true spirit of self-advocacy, Carl recently served a two-year term as a member of the Ontario Advisory Network (OAN) for Christian Horizons, reviewing initiatives and issues related to the Strategic Plan priority to Support People. He examined activities such as a satisfaction survey and occurrence / incident reporting statistics, and kept tabs on the status and growth of various initiatives, all with the intention of having his voice, his insight, and his ideas heard.

Annie spent most of her life living in an institution. Moving into a Christian Horizons’ home in the early 90s was a difficult transition for her, opening up an entirely different way of living.
