“Dare to live the life you have dreamed for yourself. Go forward and make your dreams come true.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson
Two years ago, Shanice boldly set out to make her dreams come true. She has spent the last two years completing an Early Childhood Education program at Durham College. She took courses such as Child Development, Prevention of Child Abuse, Ethics, Communications, and Introduction to Exceptionality.
Throughout her studies, she worked very hard to maintain her course load and excel at her placements. At her placements, she was responsible for creating and leading activities, assisting with child supervision, keeping activity stations clean, and helping in the kitchen.
This program taught her so much about herself and what she was truly capable of. Shanice learned how to manage her anxiety with large groups by focusing on 1:1 activities with the children and doing presentations in a smaller group. With a determination to succeed and a network of support, she also learned how to keep on top of her deadlines and manage her time in order to complete her assignments by the deadline.
Her hard work and commitment to excellence has finally paid off. As of the summer of 2016, she has successfully completed her placements with a final mark of 95 and graduated from the program.
